When one goes out of town for a trip, the wise thing to do is prepare. Especially if planning to go into the wilderness. Especially on the surface. And that is exactly what this Jedi is doing. It's been while since he went on a long trip like this without the use of an airship or a teleporter. In fact the last time was to the mountains before Anakin had disappeared and then came back not remembering anything here. And even then it was on this island. The lands beyond Shaarnath were much more desolate and unknown. So it was best to be prepared.
The Jedi could be found meandering around the marketplace. In tow was a strange creature with a saddle and Obi-Wan's various purchases strapped to its back. A smaller version of the animal also trotting behind with its lead rope tied to its mother's saddle.
It's quite the entourage and while he still sometimes gets odd glances, it seems that many are used to it by now. This Jedi has been leading that creature or riding it for some time now. The man just going about his business, always with a calm and approachable air about him as usual.
Meanwhile, Allura's doing some shopping of her own, tired but still trying to maintain a calm and pleasant image. This month's been off to a VERY rough start between accidentally confessing to Usagi, Lance being sent home, and this whole fiasco between Leia and Anakin. Allura's dreading the next committee meeting now, because from where she stands it's going to be a miracle if the whole thing doesn't devolve into an Anakin vs. Leia show. Right now she's heading for one of the shops specializing in emotion teas, her mice riding on her shoulder and trying to give Awesome Princess Friend some encouraging nuzzles. She could definitely use a blend with some strong calming magic these days.
It has bees been a tough month so far. What with coming back from being crystallized only to have Leia's announcement completely blind side him. Which led to a heated discussion with both her and then his own master, the man he thought of as a father and the one who originally took in Anakin, taking her side. Emotions have run high and Jedi are not the best when it comes to dealing with them aside from releasing them into the Force.
Needless to say Obi-Wan has worries of his own. Particularly regarding Anakin, hence the vacation, and the committee meeting has come to mind as well. Leia would be there, and he didn't consider it an option for Anakin or himself to not attend. It could get messy.
Tea was a good idea though and Obi-Wan himself was heading in that direction as well. His Eopie being tied up before the man pulled his robe around himself and and walked toward the shop. Only to reach the door about the same time as a somewhat familiar young woman. Pausing, the Jedi offered her a polite smile and motioned for her to go first.
The other presence at the door brings her out of her thoughts, and seeing the familiar-ish face does get her to smile a bit more.
"Ah, Master Kenobi, thank you." She'll go first, but then hold the door open for him. "It's good to see you uncrystallized, sir."
She'll just... not leave out "how are you?" from the usual pleasantries, because she has a feeling what the answer is already. Not to mention she's only a little more than a stranger to him.
Not many around here referred to him so formally, but it didn't bother him in the least as it was the way he was used to being referred as back home. The man dipped his head gratefully as she held the door and followed her inside.
"Thank you, its good to see you as well Miss... Allura wasn't it?"
He had been so horribly late to the last meeting that he hadn't gotten a chance to get to know the other members as well as he would have liked. He's impressed that she remembered, though it was perhaps because of said tardiness.
"Though I didn't realize the news was so widespread."
No, he has no idea that Anakin had broadcasted an image of his crystallized form. Blissfully unaware of the fact that Anakin had decorated him and put straws in his nose. Perhaps it's better that way.
"It is. It's good to meet you a bit more properly." She won't bother correcting him on the "princess" part at the moment, she's sure it'll come up sometime.
That last comment makes her realize that nope, he doesn't know about the broadcast, and the air around her starts lightly steaming as she gives a sheepish smile.
"A-ah, not quite, Leia told me about it a short while ago."
Three guesses when, and the first two don't count.
He knows of the broadcast, but just that Anakin has a rant. He really hasn't been given many details. Feel free to guess when he first heard about it too. The Jedi's brows raising slightly at the mention of another princess.
"You have spoken to Leia?"
A beat as he connects the dots and clears his throat. The Calm Chamomile tea suddenly looking very interesting as he picks up a bag.
"I see. I hope you didn't find the conversation too upsetting."
Of course, it could have been upsetting in a number of ways. Allura could have been shaken by the revelation of an apparently dangerous man on the loose. Or her opinion might be more like his in that the announcement was inappropriate. It's hard to say seeing as he really doesn't know her. Either way, he wouldn't wish any sort of negative impact on her.
So interesting, it's definitely a lively competition between that and the Lulling Lavender, isn't it? After a second's debate, she relents with a sigh.
"Honestly, I think it could have gone better for both of us. And I'm worried that what we discussed could have a negative impact on the rest of the committee."
The competition will have to wait as what Allura says gets his attention. Enough for him to glance back up again. There's concern in his eyes. As a former representative, the Arehtei are of high importance to him.
"How so?"
He could take a few guesses. Obi-Wan had his own concerns, but he wanted to hear Allura's opinion. Considering most of his attention has been on Anakin, she may have something he hasn't considered yet.
She takes a moment to look around the store. It is an important conversation, and frankly Obi-Wan does have more than a few stakes in this, but standing in the middle of a tea shop...
"Perhaps once we purchase our tea, we can continue this conversation elsewhere. I was thinking of taking a break for lunch at a nearby cafe if you'd like to join me."
A small smile touched his face again. That was a very prudent suggestion, and considerate. He nodded his agreement.
"Yes, of course. I should only be a moment."
He usually bought the same kinds of tea, so he wouldn't do much browsing. Taking the Calm Chamomile while also picking up Merry Mint, and then he got his favorite blend. These teas were staples in his household, and they always went quickly.
Once he had purchased the teas, he went back outside and placed them inside one of Rooh's saddlebags along with a few other small items. It was there that he would then wait for Allura to emerge as well before following her to the cafe.
Thankfully he wouldn't have to wait long, with Allura quickly purchasing the lavender and rose teas before joining them outside. The animals certainly catch her attention again, especially the baby. Cute~
"Well these are certainly interesting. Are they native to this world like the wyverns, Master Kenobi, or are they from yours?"
She resists the urge to give Rooh's baby scritches; she doesn't know how protective these animals are of their young, after all. The mice are quite curious and sniff-sniff at them from their perch on Allura's shoulders.
"Well, there are certainly worse reasons for being late to a meeting. I certainly excuse you for it."
There's definitely a warm, teasing smile that reaches her voice and even makes the air faintly sparkle; a nice, happy moment in the middle of all the drama piling up this month.
Obi-Wan can practically sense Allura's eagerness to pet the baby, not that he can blame her one bit. Fortunately Obi-Wan is the type of man to have the foresight not to bring an animal that could get potentially aggressive out in public like this. The Jedi chuckling lightly at her words.
"I am grateful for your understanding. Though I'm certain little Keella there would like to meet you as well."
In demonstration, Obi-Wan reached over to pet the baby fondly. The young Eopie bleating happily while also peering at Allura and her mice with wide bright eyes. The tiny creatures not having escaped the Jedi's notice either.
Well then, she'll give Keella a "hello" and a soft pat or two to the head. At Obi-Wan's question she turns her attention back to him and the mice.
"They are; this is Platt, Chuchule, Chulatt, and Plachu," pointing to the yellow, pink, charcoal, and turquoise mice respectively. They give some squeaks and even a wave at the one they decide they'll dub Bearded Robe Friend. They are adorable, love them! "These four are from my world as well, specifically my planet Altea. They actually came with me when I first arrived here."
Bearded Robe Friend? Well he supposed that wasn't inaccurate. What he found interesting was that these mice seemed to be intelligent. Not that he hasn't come across interesting species during his travels in his galaxy, but he knew the mice in this world were different.
Thus he dipped his head slightly in a polite nod to the little creatures. And they most certainly are adorable! Even the little grouchy looking one there.
"Really? Well it's a pleasure to meet them as well."
Obi-Wan then motioned for Allura to walk ahead of him and lead the way.
And they have a psychic link with Awesome Princess Friend too~ It's amazing what stowing away in a stasis pod holding a princess for ten thousand years will do for a mousy brain.
A little nod and they're on their way! It doesn't take long for them to reach the cafe at all, and there's plenty of outdoor seating.
"So, how have you been so far this month?"
She'll try to ease into things rather than just, ya know, dive headfirst into the drama.
Once the Eopie were tied up nearby, Obi-Wan joined Allura at one of the outdoor tables. Her question though drew a tight smile. Though the Jedi was as usual in control of his emotions and showed little other sign of being bothered.
"I admit I could be better."
He wasn't going to go into detail, but waking up from crystallization to a wrecked house, a disturbing announcement the next day, being stuck in the middle between his best friend and his daughter, and having an argument with his father figure all within the span of a few days. Needless to say it's been a difficult time for him. The thought of it all made a few mushrooms pop up from the ground nearby.
"But I will manage. How about you?"
There was no need to dump all his problems on this nice young lady who he barely knew.
And Allura's roughly in the same boat as well, between accidentally revealing her feelings to Usagi and being turned down, Lance being sent home after months of becoming best friends instead of distant (horrible flirt of a) paladin and princess, and of course the whole Leia vs Anakin fiasco. But of course Allura's always had a habit of trying to put on a strong facade, especially with strangers.
"Truthfully, about the same. It's been a rough start to the month, but nothing unbearable."
They should start the This is Fine club, they can have jackets and everything.
Obi-Wan was largely the same way though he suppressed his emotions far more than Allura did. Such was the Jedi way.
"I find this world presents a unique set of challenges that forces you to face problems you normally would not have."
And on top of that problems that were typical. It seemed to be the price you paid for having a second chance at other things. With unique opportunities came unique challenges.
"Leia's announcement being one such example."
He figures it's time to get to the point instead of tip-toeing around it.
She gives a light sigh, but tries to keep the smile on her face.
"Exactly. On the one hand, Leia is a friend of mine, and... the anger she has towards someone who destroyed her planet is very understandable."
He can probably sense that the grief she feels is strong, and close, not just second-hand empathy.
"On the other, Anakin is from before those actions, and not only do I not know him well enough to judge for myself, I also have experience with that anger escaping my control."
Obi-Wan nodded slowly, carefully listening to Allura's words and sensing her grief. She may or may not notice the same from him. A slight turning away of his eyes, the melancholy feel to his gentle expression, and the mushrooms thriving around their table. Just hints to a deeper grief that he largely keeps buried.
"Leia is something akin to family to me. And while I will only know her as a baby in my time, I can appreciate the woman she has become here."
He sighed softly as he considered his next words, his hand lightly scrubbing his beard.
"Anakin on the other hand, I have known much of his life. I raised him from a small boy and taught him in the ways of my people. He is like a brother to me. However, I can not deny he will do terrible things. I can sympathize with Leia because he will cause the extermination of my people as well. Not that far into his future actually. In fact he was on the verge of doing so when he was brought here. He was angry, confused, and desperate, but there was still a chance. I took that chance, and after months of work, with some set backs here and there, he has turned around."
She could only take his word for that though, and by what she has witnessed. Leia, after all, would argue that Anakin hasn't changed.
"Leia refuses to acknowledge that, as I'm sure you are aware. While it can't be expected for her to ever be on friendly terms with Anakin, she indeed holds on to an anger that is very dangerous."
"That's also similar; as I told Leia, the man who destroyed my home was once a good man: the king of his planet, the leader of the peacekeeping force my father and their three friends were part of, and a devoted husband and my father's best friend since before I was born. I can't imagine Leia having to interact with him knowing what he'll do in the future."
She sets her mug of tea down.
"All of that aside, my main concern now is how peace can be kept with two committee members having a very public argument. What's between them is between them to sort out, but at this point I don't see it not affecting the committee in some way."
"You are right to be concerned, and I would be lying if I said I hadn't thought of it as well."
All three of them were on the committee and he could foresee there potentially being problems.
"I would hope that Leia would be professional enough to not allow it to affect her duties as a member. Anakin, I'm fairly certain, will not be a problem unless provoked. Leia I'm not as sure of. During the last meeting they appeared to be getting along fine, which made this announcement seem rather sudden. However, and I dislike even suggesting it, if she does allow her personal feelings to get in the way of her duties then action may need to be taken. Perhaps even dismissal from the committee. We can not afford to have a divided committee, or members who are distracted."
Action!
