February 2022 - Fairy Tales
Character name: Princess Allura

Move used: Mist, Ice Shard, Safeguard, Aurora Beam, Ice Beam, Powder Snow
The performance:
A deep breath… and Allura makes her way towards the mic, clad in a truly stunning gown, her new circlet shining on her brow, and her moon white hair still baring a faint streak of pink from her spa trip a couple of weeks ago. Her Pokémon are nowhere to be seen yet… but when Allura begins to speak, a faint Mist slowly begins to fill the stage.
“Once upon a time, in the oldest days of Altea, in the days of the Ancients and the gods… there was a war.” The spotlights stain the stage and the Mist red and cast harsh shadows on the backdrop, the orchestral score starting with booming brass and heavy drums. “The reasons have been lost to time- squabbling over resources, an insult taken too far- but it does not matter. Just that there was a war, one that the rulers of the lands of Altair and Heleena deemed it worthy of spilling the blood of their subjects to wound each other.”
“Once upon a time… there were two people.” The red eases back to a more natural light and the music to lighter brass and violins. It’s here that Coressa finally makes her appearance, clad in a little cape of dark pink silk that still allows her to move freely about and leaves her beautiful tails on display. “Kiere of Heleena was a warrior unrivaled in martial skill and bravery, fighting tirelessly to protect her fellow warriors and her country.” Coressa shows off that martial prowess gladly, darting about the stage as only a fox can, letting loose the occasional Ice Shard for emphasis.
“That is… until an arrow found its mark. And then a healer found her.” Coressa collapses to the stage with a keening yelp before Ayrol the Togetic hovers over to her as flutes join the ensemble, pale pink and dark blue ribbons tied to his feet like jesses in lieu of a full costume which would hinder his flight. Coressa gives a weak snarl at Ayrol before “fainting,” giving Ayrol a chance to work at “healing” her… and for them to put more of their acting on display. “Even though Aldar wore Altair’s colors, he abhorred the war and only joined to preserve what life he could, even those of his enemies. As he treated Kiere’s wounds, they spoke, and as they spoke, they laughed, and he touched her shoulder… she found she didn’t want his hand to leave.”
Once Coressa is all patched up, she hops to her feet with a soft bark, and the two begin to hop and hover around each other as if dancing, back-to-back on a battlefield, the noble horns dancing around the lighter strings and woodwinds.
“They began to work together, surreptitiously. Kiere would block blows sent Aldar’s way- claiming it was dishonorable to harm a healer.” Complete with Coressa creating a shimmering Safeguard to protect Ayrol from an invisible arrow. “And Aldar would tend to Kiere’s wounds and those of warriors she brought to him, neither of them caring which side they treated. And in the quiet moments between battles, they would meet on the bridge dividing their two lands…” The two Pokemon are still as they look at each other admiringly… “Until an arrow found its mark.”
Coressa very carefully aims an Aurora Beam over Ayrol’s shoulder to make it look like he’s been struck, not wanting to hurt the Flying type. As the lighting flashes red again, she blinks back into character as Kiere mourns Aldar’s sudden death, Ayrol swooning before falling to the stage floor to the sound of booming bass brass and drums.
“Kiere’s screams pierced the air as a stray arrow pierced Aldar’s heart. She rushed to hold him in his last moments, shielding from weapons that had already stilled, shocked not only at the death of a healer but at this display of love and grief.” Coressa follows the narration to a T, pairing the protection with another Safeguard even as she collapses.
“It was then that the gods took pity on them… immediately where the lovers lay, juniberries spread out and around them, a sacred flower representing the cycle of life and love itself, and the fighting immediately stilled under the setting sun.”
This is the part they’ve practiced the most… paired with a lighter, glistening version of the lovers’ leitmotif, Coressa aims a long, powerful Ice Beam at the floor of the stage itself. The crystals rising from the blast bare more than a passing resemblance to the juniberries described, tall and pointed but still delicate, the spotlights adding to the effect by shining deep pink light over the fields to invoke the flowers and the twilight sky, slowly dimming to deep blue.
“And as night fell and both sides signed treaties and made peace, the gods granted Kiere a boon for the sacrifice she and Aldar made. But she only wished to be with Aldar again. So, the gods built a news bridge in the sky, with the stars themselves forming stones. The two brightest stars are the souls of the two lovers, still standing on this new bridge, never to be torn apart again.”
Crowned with Coressa aiming a blast of Powder Snow into the air, and once it clears… a beautiful projection of the Milky Way on the backdrop behind them. It still strikes Allura how similar that streak of stars matches the Star Bridge that once graced Altea’s nights. And once the music stops, Ayrol and Coressa hop up from the floor to take their bows, and Allura gives a curtsy of her own.
